Clapham has three names worth knowing if you want a dance floor: the Clapham Grand by the Junction, plus Infernos and the Two Brewers on Clapham High Street. They suit different nights, so here is what each one is, what to wear and when to turn up.

Clapham Grand, opposite Clapham Junction, SW11

The biggest room in the area. The building dates from 1900 and began as a Victorian theatre. Since then it has been a cinema, a variety theatre and a 1990s rave-era nightclub. Capacity is 1,250, and many weekend events run until 3am.

It is not only a club. The programme takes in club nights (a pop party with DJ Tete Bang is one example), drag, comedy and Bongo’s Bingo, so check what is on before you go.

Door times. Look at the individual event page, because they vary. The venue’s Off Campus Night, listed for Saturday 20 June, has doors at 10:30pm, last entry at 12am and a finish at 3am, and it is 18+. The Christmas party on a Saturday night last year ran 10:30pm to 2:30am, with £5 on the door before 11pm and £15 after, and last entry at 1am. The pattern is clear: early is cheaper, and the door closes well before the music stops.

ID. It is 18+ with valid physical photo ID. According to the venue’s FAQ page, you may be asked for a second form of ID if you look under 25.

Dress code. One third-party guide lists it as smart casual unless an event says otherwise, and prices it at ££. The venue’s own line is simpler: no sliders or flip-flops, and open-toe shoes are at your own risk. Hats are generally fine, though you may be asked to take off a cap or turn it around. Fancy dress is encouraged on themed nights.

Infernos, 146 Clapham High Street, SW4

The big-night-out standard on the High Street. Time Out has called it the benchmark for the area, in an older article. The draw is disco and crowd-pleasers on two carpeted floors, with a midnight balloon drop and podium dancing.

It has been listed as a Friday and Saturday club, running late into the small hours, but older listings give different times, so check the current night’s listing before you set off.

ID and age. The policy has been over-21s, with strict no ID, no entry. One Thursday listing from August 2025 showed 18+ with last entry at 11pm, so the age limit can differ by night. Read the listing for the night you are going and bring photo ID regardless.

Dress code. Listings disagree a little. One says no sportswear or trainers. Another describes smart casual, with fancy dress welcome and no sports or work wear. A third says fancy dress is encouraged. The safe answer is a proper pair of shoes, no sportswear and no work gear. A travel guide adds that no single entry is another rule that matters, so go with friends.

Two Brewers, 114 Clapham High Street, SW4 7UJ

An LGBTQ+ bar and club that has been part of London’s LGBTQ+ nightlife since 1981, and it is known for drag cabaret. CAMRA describes it as a gay bar and late-night club with cabaret, DJs and a big screen for sport. It is run by Stonegate.

The venue’s page lists a dancefloor, late licence, live music, a smoking area and big screens. Karaoke, lip-sync and quiz nights also feature. For drinks, 2-for-1 spritz deals have been listed.

Opening hours. From the venue’s opening times page:

  • Monday: 5pm to 1am
  • Tuesday and Wednesday: 5pm to 2am
  • Friday and Saturday: 5pm to 4am
  • Sunday: 4pm to 2am

Thursday was not listed on the venue page, so check before you go. Fri and Sat are the late ones, with the bar open until 4am. Party bookings go through the venue’s website. Details are on its CAMRA entry, with phone 020 7819 9539.

Which one for which night

  • Big room, big crowd: the Clapham Grand, opposite Clapham Junction. Check the event page for the door times.
  • Disco and a proper dress-up: Infernos, Clapham High Street. Go with friends and bring ID.
  • Cabaret, DJs and a late finish: the Two Brewers, Clapham High Street, open until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Before you go

Three rules cover all of them. Bring valid photo ID. Wear proper shoes, not sliders. Arrive early where an event has a price change or an early last entry, because the Grand’s door closes while the party is still going. Clapham High Street is the better bet if you want to move between places on foot, since Infernos and the Two Brewers are a few doors apart, at numbers 146 and 114.
