Christmas in Clapham 2026 starts on Friday 27 November, when the Junction's lights go on at 5pm at the corner of Northcote Road and Abyssinia Road, and from then on there is something every week: Dear Santa at Battersea Arts Centre from 28 November, free carol nights at The Sun in the Old Town, and the Grand's packed Christmas season on St John's Hill. Here are the dates we have checked, and how to book.

The lights: Friday 27 November

The Junction's Christmas lights switch-on is an evening of festive entertainment around the tree at the corner of Northcote Road and Abyssinia Road, with the lights coming on at 5pm. Local school choirs sing along Northcote Road, with a finale on the Abyssinia Road stage. It is free, it is busy, and it is the moment Christmas officially starts in SW11. Get there before 4.30pm for a view of the tree.

Battersea Arts Centre: Dear Santa, the Grotto and soft play

Battersea Arts Centre on Lavender Hill turns into a Christmas takeover for young families.

  • Dear Santa, 28 November to 24 December. A show based on Rod Campbell's book, recommended for ages two to six, about 55 minutes with no interval, at 11am, 2pm and 4.30pm. BAC lists prices as pay what you can on 28 and 29 November, with £15 recommended, then £16.50 from 1 to 17 December and £18 from 19 to 24 December, plus a £2 transaction fee per order. Children aged 18 months and under go free without a ticket.
  • Santa's Grotto, 4 to 24 December. Mr Claus in his BAC grotto, separate from the show.
  • Festive Soft Play, 1 to 24 December. For ages nought to five, with £2.50 off when you book it with a Dear Santa ticket.

The December weekends go first. Book as early as you can.

Christmas shopping

For the Christmas table, the butchers and cheesemongers open their order books early. M.
