Yoga and pilates in Clapham: studios, prices and beginner classes
Four SW4 studios, what each charges to try a class, and which beginner sessions to book first.
By Clapham London EditorialStart with the cheapest way in: a Saturday 10am beginners mat class on Gauden Road, SW4, at £16. If you want hot yoga or a Reformer, Wingate Square and Bromells Road are the addresses to know. Prices below come from the studios and listings, and they change, so check the timetable before you go.
Best for a cheap first class: Pilates Sanctuary, Gauden Road
Pilates Sanctuary sits at 113 to 115 Gauden Road, SW4, inside Balance Performance Physiotherapy. The mat timetable has a general class on Tuesdays from 6.45pm to 7.45pm and a Beginners class on Saturdays from 10am to 11am. Both are drop-in at £16, or £70 for a five-class card valid for three months. It is a small, fully equipped studio, which suits anyone who would rather not start in a packed room. Details are on the Balance class page.
Best for choice: Yogahaven, Wingate Square
Yogahaven is at 63 Wingate Square, SW4, a minute from Clapham Common tube on the Northern line. The studio says it has been part of Clapham life since 2010. It runs hot and non-heated yoga, Hot Pilates, Hot Strength, Strength and Mobility, Mat Pilates and a Reformer studio, and describes itself as suitable for every age, body and level.
- Yoga, Mat Pilates and strength: the first month is £69.
- All-Access: £149 for the first month, then £240 a month.
- Reformer: two weeks of unlimited classes is £99. Membership is 10 classes a month for £180, which works out at £18 a class.
New to the Reformer? Beginners start with the Fundamentals class. See the Reformer page and the studio offers. A single drop-in price is not listed on those pages, so ask before you turn up.
Best for Reformer beginners: Avalon Pilates, Bromells Road
Avalon Pilates is at Unit 2, 40 to 48 Bromells Road, SW4, about three minutes on foot from Clapham Common tube. It is Reformer only, with beginner and advanced classes, plus prenatal, postnatal, Mum and Baby and Tower sessions. Socks are compulsory, and grippy ones are sold in the studio.
It is the priciest of the lot: a drop-in is £35, four classes are £120 (£30 each, used within a month) and eight classes are £232 (£29 each). Full details are on the pricing page.
Best for a bundle: Oncore, Clapham Park Road and Park Hill
Oncore is a Clapham Common brand founded in 2013, with studios on Clapham Park Road and Park Hill, SW4. Classes include Reformer, Mat Pilates, Hot Pilates, yoga, barre and cycling. Londonaire lists £30 for two classes, or £15 a class for Pilates, and ranks it among London’s cheaper options. Other listings quote different intro deals, so confirm the current price on the booking page. See the Londonaire guide.
Which beginner class to book
- Cheapest: Pilates Sanctuary, Saturday 10am Beginners, Gauden Road, £16.
- Reformer: Yogahaven Fundamentals on Wingate Square, or Avalon’s beginner Reformer on Bromells Road.
- Yoga plus variety: Yogahaven’s £69 first month covers yoga, Mat Pilates and strength.
Quick maths
Intro offers beat drop-ins. A £16 mat drop-in is fine for one trial, but if you plan to go more than a few times, Yogahaven’s £69 first month or Oncore’s multi-class deals work out cheaper per class. Reformer is a different price bracket: expect roughly £18 a class on a membership and up to £35 for a single visit.
