Where to eat in Clapham Old Town, and what to order
From a Michelin star on The Polygon to brunch above the Pavement, here is where to eat in the Old Town and what to order.
By Clapham London EditorialThe Old Town is the stretch between the south side of the Common and Clapham High Street, built around the Pavement, the Polygon, Venn Street, Old Town and Rectory Grove. The nearest tube is Clapham Common. For a proper dinner, go to the Polygon. For brunch with a view, head up the Pavement.
Trinity, The Polygon
Trinity is at 4 The Polygon, SW4 0JG, and it is the Old Town’s big-occasion table. Adam Byatt opened it in the mid-2000s and it won its first Michelin star in 2016. Country & Town House calls it Clapham’s only Michelin star. There is an open-to-view kitchen, a terrace and a dining room of about 50 seats.
What to order: the menus change with the seasons. Country & Town House describes a six-course Classics menu with crispy pigs’ trotters, shellfish ravioli and turbot cooked on the bone. OpenTable singles out the beef tartare and an apple tarte tatin baked to order, and notes a wine list of around 800 bins.
Price and booking: OpenTable shows “£41 and over” per person. Book ahead; the number is 020 7622 1199. The Nudge lists it as open daily for lunch and dinner, but check before you go.

Upstairs at Trinity, The Polygon
Same address, more relaxed. Upstairs at Trinity holds a Bib Gourmand in the 2026 Michelin Guide United Kingdom, in the ££ price band. It has an open kitchen and a stripped-back room with plants across the ceiling. SquareMeal says small plates and a glass of wine are perfectly fine here, which makes it the easy way into the Trinity kitchen without a full tasting menu.
The Nudge gives lunch Wednesday to Sunday and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, so confirm the hours when you book on 020 3745 7227. Harden’s gives it a 5 for service, the highest in its Clapham list. See the Michelin Guide entry.
No 32 The Old Town, the Pavement
This is the pick for brunch and for staying put. No 32 The Old Town is at 32 The Pavement, SW4 0JE, an all-day bar and restaurant with brunch, cocktails and views over the Common. London The Inside says it serves everything from breakfast to dinner and has a roof terrace. Foodism points to the first-floor terrace for green views of the Common.
What to order: beef and black pudding croquettes, mussels marinière with fries, or the house burger. A brunch guide from That’s Up says brunch runs until 4pm. The venue’s own site is taking bookings for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, so it is clearly a place that fills up. Book at no32theoldtown.co.uk.
Common, the Pavement
For coffee and something small, Common is at 17 The Pavement, SW4 0HY, in a Grade II listed former pharmacy. The original apothecary cabinets now show off ceramics and homewares. The menu is organic artisan bread, sandwiches, pastries and cakes, with vegetarian and vegan options, and the coffee comes from the local roaster Assembly. Opening times vary between listings, so check before a special trip. Details are on the This is Clapham listing.
The Rose & Crown, The Polygon
At 2 The Polygon, SW4 0JG, the Rose & Crown is a gastropub with a pub on the ground floor and a dining room upstairs. SquareMeal lists it for British classics, small plates and generous Sunday roasts, and London The Inside describes it as recently refurbished and Clapham’s oldest drinking establishment, with decent Sunday offerings. It is the one for a roast. Call 020 3011 5155 to check times and book. See the SquareMeal entry.
