Short version: Megan’s Clapham Old Town is at 55-57 The Pavement, SW4 0JQ, in the Old Town. It is open daily from breakfast to late, you can book online, and the kitchen leaves space for walk-ins. Go on a weekday morning for calm, or Saturday afternoon for the party.

What it is

Megan’s is a small, independently owned, dog-friendly restaurant with a loosely Mediterranean menu, according to its Tagvenue listing. It covers brunch, lunch, dinner and cocktails every day. It is a short walk from Clapham Common station (Tagvenue puts it at 0.2 miles), and the venue describes itself as close to Venn Street.

The look is the draw. The group’s own Old Town page talks about sitting under a real olive tree, with fairy lights overhead and sharing boards raised above the table. DesignMyNight also mentions an evil-eye tree and a fairy-lit stairway. Do not confuse it with The Terrace by Megan’s, which is a separate outdoor site on Clapham Common.

Opening hours

  • Monday to Wednesday: 8.30am to 10pm, kitchen until 9.30pm
  • Thursday to Saturday: 8.30am to 11pm, kitchen until 10.30pm
  • Sunday: 9am to 9pm, kitchen until 8.30pm

Hours are taken from the venue’s own page, so check the booking page before a late night.

What to order

The dish most often named on DesignMyNight is the overnight braised lamb with feta and pistachios. A Tripadvisor reviewer also recommended the Megans brunch and the lamb kebab, which is served after 11.30am. A recent reviewer went for a sausage flatbread at breakfast.

The menu is split by time of day:

  • Breakfast: until 11am on weekdays, until 10am at weekends
  • Brunch and lunch: 11am to 3pm Monday to Thursday, 10am to 3pm Friday to Sunday

DesignMyNight has also listed a £12 Kebab Night on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5pm, with chargrilled chicken thigh, grilled halloumi with pomegranate, crispy falafel or the lamb. Ask when you book that it is still running, as the listing is undated. The same goes for its happy hour (5pm to 7pm daily) and an early dinner of two courses for £18.

When to go

Saturday afternoon: Brunch with Benefits runs every Saturday from 1pm to 5pm. Megan’s describes it on its bottomless brunch page as music-led and building through the afternoon. Book it.

Late: Thursday to Saturday is when the room stays open until 11pm, and the venue promotes late-night music and drinks as Megan’s After Dark.

Quieter: weekday mornings are the sensible bet if you want to talk. Tripadvisor reviewers say weekday sessions can get loud with young children, so it is lively rather than hushed whenever you go.

Prices and booking

Tripadvisor puts Megan’s in the ££ to £££ band, so expect a mid-range bill rather than a bargain one. The venue says it always leaves space for walk-ins, and you can book online through its own site or DesignMyNight. One recent reviewer felt tables were being held for bookings while walk-ins were seated elsewhere, and Megan’s replied that it balances the two. The practical lesson: on a Saturday, book.

Tripadvisor rates it 4.0 from around 503 reviews, and DesignMyNight shows 762.

Private hire

There is a Tree Room for private hire and a whole-venue option, with hire listed from £1,750.

The history

The opening date for this branch is not publicly confirmed. Tripadvisor reviews from February 2020 show it was already trading by then.
