Clapham markets by day: the Sunday, Saturday and occasional ones
Saturdays on Venn Street, summer Sundays at the Bandstand, makers at the Omnibus and antiques on Northcote Road: which market runs when.
By Clapham London EditorialShort version: Saturday is Venn Street, Sunday is the Bandstand on the Common in summer, and the Makers Market at the Omnibus Theatre turns up on occasional Sundays. Northcote Road has its own market and an indoor antiques market a short hop from the Junction. Here is the week laid out, with the occasional ones flagged so you do not turn up to an empty pavement.
Saturday: Venn Street Market, Clapham Old Town
The one most people already know. Venn Street Market sets up on Venn Street, SW4 0AT, every Saturday from 10am, with listings giving a close of 3pm. The offer is street food, fresh produce, flowers and crafts under green-tented stalls, as The Nudge describes it. Go early if you want the pick of the produce, and treat it as a stroll-and-graze stop rather than a big shop. It sits right by the Old Town, so a coffee on the Pavement afterwards is easy.
Sunday, summer only: the Bandstand street food market
On the Common, the Clapham Common Street Food Market sits by the Bandstand. The market’s Instagram account, @claphamcommonmarket, gives its hours as Sundays, 11am to 4pm, and says it is powered by Karnival Food. It runs alongside the free Bandstand concerts, and the traders change from week to week, so what you eat depends on the Sunday.
Timing matters because this one is seasonal. The Clapham Society lists the 2026 concert season as starting on 7 June with The Fabulous Honeys big band and running to 31 August, again accompanied by a street market of food, treats and drinks from selected local traders. Another local site, claphamcommon.info, noted in April that the market has previously run from early June to the end of August. So: not a winter option, and worth a quick check of the market’s Instagram before you head over on an unsettled day.
Occasional Sundays: Clapham Makers Market, Omnibus Theatre
This is the one to look out for rather than rely on. The Clapham Makers Market is held at the Omnibus Theatre, 1 Clapham Common North Side, SW4 0QW, a former library on the edge of the Old Town. It began in 2021 and is an independent-makers market: think jewellery, prints, ceramics, homewares, candles and vegan soap, as described on a maker’s market page.
- When: occasional Sundays, with typical hours of 11am to 5pm.
- Where: inside the Omnibus Theatre, across two floors in past editions.
- Who it suits: past listings describe it as dog-friendly, family-friendly and fully accessible.
- Before you go: it does not run every Sunday, so check the Omnibus Theatre or the market’s Instagram for the next date.
It is a good fit for a gift you cannot get on the High Street, and it pairs neatly with a lap of the Common on the same Sunday.
Northcote Road: the market and the antiques
Northcote Road is in Battersea, by Clapham Junction, but it is part of the same weekend loop for plenty of SW11 and SW4 residents. Northcote Road Market is described by Time Out as busiest on Friday and Saturday, and its Saturday-markets list gives hours of 10am to 5.30pm and says the market dates back to the 1800s. Those listings are a few years old, so use them as a guide to the rhythm rather than a timetable.
For something indoors, Northcote Road Antiques Market is at 155a Northcote Road, SW11 6QB, with more than 30 dealers under one roof, according to Visit London. Opening days vary by dealer, so look up the hours before making a special trip.
The week at a glance
- Friday and Saturday: Northcote Road Market at its busiest, SW11.
- Saturday: Venn Street Market, 10am until mid-afternoon, SW4.
- Sunday, summer: Bandstand street food on Clapham Common, 11am to 4pm.
- Occasional Sundays: Clapham Makers Market, Omnibus Theatre, 11am to 5pm.
What is not on the list
A few things get mistaken for markets. The winter funfair on the Common is a funfair, and Oktoberfest on the Common is a beer festival. The old Sunday farmers’ market off Abbeville Road is no longer open. If you are after Christmas stalls, keep an eye on local noticeboards and the Old Town, where pop-up artisan markets tend to appear in the run-up, but plan around what is announced rather than assuming a repeat.
Prices and what to order vary stall by stall, so bring cash and a card, and a bag for the produce. If you are new to SW4, start on Venn Street on a Saturday, and work Sundays in from there.
